Malaga Film Office, the City Council filming office, had the best year-end data in 2019 since birth 18 years ago. With 205 audiovisual activity days the city has reached 23 euro million thank to these audiovisual productions investment, meaning an increase of 79% comparing with 2018.

The most filming type shoot during 2109 was, as previous years, advertising with a total of 68 productions (still photography, advertising spots and video, both video clip as corporate); follow by short films with 36 and the third position is for programs, most of them tv programs with 27 shoots.

Regarding countries, even if Spain is the principal country shooting in malaguenian locations, also, international productions has been shot in Malaga, for example, United Kingdom chose Malaga for 5 productions, one of them was the very famous Netflix series The Crown. Also other remarkable international productions were shot in Malaga such as the feature films Les années 10, by Thierry de Peretti and Famous (The Power of Love) by Valerie Lemercier, bot French; the American The Hitman’s Wifes Bodyguard by Patrick Hughes; or the Hindu Miss India by Gopi Krishna.

This all translates into a direct economic injection producing benefits not only to the tourism sector (hotels, restaurants, transports…) but also promoting the business network. In addition, at the same time it is an engine of indirect and induced wealth, by spreading the Malaga brand around the world.

Since its foundation in September 2001, Malaga Film Office has attended a total of 5,633 projects, 2,699 of these have been shot with an economic investment that exceeds 87 euro million.

Nowadays is working in the sustainable development of audiovisual sector in collaboration with Promalaga, as membership of Green Screen (the European project to reduce the carbon footprint of European film and tv production) has participate in many events betting to introduce sustainable regulations in audiovisual productions.

Data shows how wonderful was 2019, a great 2020 is also expected, holding the Goya awards in Malaga for first time is a good start of year. Malaga has demonstrated, once again, its commitment with Spanish cinema, with a total inversion of 700.000 euro in order to celebrate the awards and transform a sport area in a theatre where, the staging off was brilliant from the experts point of view.

Continuing a year of full audiovisual projects next 23rd edition of Malaga Film Festival will take place between March 13rd an 22nd.
